Ammonium nitrate - N 34%
(MINERAL FERTILIZER)
Ammonium nitrate is a universal fertilizer. It can be used for all kinds of crops and on all kinds of soil. It is appropriate for pre-seeding and after main summer harvest application. While application after main harvest the fertilizer should be covered with some soil to prevent the loss of nitrogen. It is not advised to use the fertilizer in autumn in doses exceeding the seasonal needs of plants because of big losses in nitrogen resulting from washing out of the nitrate forms. Excessive growth of vegetative parts of plants before winter time is also a negative factor.
Ammonium nitrate has a granulated form. It is a highly hygroscopic product, easily soluble in water and strongly chemically reacting. It should be stored in stocking places preventing the access of precipitation and ground waters. The product should be also protected against excessive sunlight, overheating (over 30°C degrees) and contami-nation. There cannot be any chemical compounds nearby nor any materials reacting with the ammonium nitrate or being inflammable, e.g. plant protectives, lime, concrete, acids, coal, wood, sawdust, propellants, lubricants and straw. Ammonium nitrate mustn't be stocked near other (than ammonium) fertilizers. It should be transported only under cover.
Available in 50 kg bags and in 500 kg big-bags.
Advised dosing
Different plant species characterize by different nitrogen demands. When determining the demand the following factors should be taken into account: soil reaction, forecrop, plant selection, fall amounts, chemical protection program and the designation of a crop. The above doses are averaged and before taking the final decision on the nitrogen dose the local application conditions should be taken into account.
| Plant | Kg/ha | Plant | Kg/ha | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| wheat | 200-380 | winter rye | 180-260 | |
| winter rape | 410-590 | potatoes | 180-350 | |
| spring rape | 180-350 | sugar beet and mangel | 380-530 | |
| wheat-rye | 200-350 | grass | 500-680 | |
Safety measures
The fertilizer used in accordance with its designation and stocked according to the abovementioned rules doesn't cause any danger. While long working with the fertilizer, gloves and protectives of respiratory tract and eyes should be used. In case a skin irritation appears a doctor should be immediately contacted.
Notice: Ammonium nitrate shows some self-ignition properties (thermal or chemical). During combustion toxic gases are emitted. In case of overheating and/or mixing with other substances there is a danger of explosion.
